Session Date: 4/4/2016
Session Location: Pingree Park, CO
Meet Genevieve Gaskill, also known as Zelcova. Genevieve grew up in metro Detroit, MI where she grew her fondness and passion for music. Genevieve moved to Fort Collins, CO two years ago. In her time here, she has made great strides in songwriting ability. Having a great desire to grow her knowledge of music and playing, she has expanded her arsenal of instruments. In Fort Collins has played the Black Mountain Ramble as well as sharing the bill with local artists such as Wolf Van Elfmand, and Eric Bjella. As a caregiver, Genevieve has implemented the joy and importance of music in many children by playing and teaching!
This past fall (2015) Genevieve embarked on a three month journey to Guatemala to further her studies in herbalism. During this time, she continued to be inspired by the world around her. Whether is was other people to play with, or some time alone with her instruments, music played an integral role in these travels.
Currently, she has been working on a conceptual music project. In this project, Genevieve uses the book 'Be Here Now' by Ram Dass as both inspiration as well as song lyrics. She flips to a random page in the book, and then starts playing. Twisting and contorting the poetry in the book into infectious melodies and beautiful music. The songs in this session are part of this project, hence the page numbers. If you have a copy of the book, I encourage you to follow along! Between these songs, and an array of originals, Genevieve continues to march forth in her musical journey.
