Meet Whippoorwill! Comprised of Fort Collins music scene veterans, Alysia, Staci, and Tobias. The wheels started turning in 2013 while Alysia was playing down at SXSW. Alysia just had her guitar stolen when a mutual friend recommended she look up Staci in order to "get out of the city to some Texas river holes with the Texas river queen". It was then that the duo formed. Whippoorwill was taken to another level when they decided to make an album in 2016. The duo then became a trio late in 2016 when they were introduced to their drummer and harmonizing vocalist, Tobias, by some mutual friends in the Fort Collins scene. They have been living in Fort Collins on and off since about 2010 and are extremely happy to call this city their home base.
The groups pulls from many varied influences to create their own sound. Musicians like Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Gillian Welch, The Wood Brothers, and Rodney Crowell (see their version of Bluebird Wine in the video!)
Since Tobias joined the band, they have embarked on two tours. "The first was the sunshine, waterhole tour that could do no wrong... and the next was the flash flood, tornado, are-we-gonna-make-it-out-alive-can't-believe-our-van-just-died experience. The best part of touring with people you love is that it's all memorable (good or bad), and it becomes a part of our collective story. I've found myself writing a bunch from both experiences, and I know we were all really impacted by those experiences" - Alysia
Recently, Whippoorwill has been drawing their inspiration from each other, and has found their groove in writing songs as a unit. In regards to a new album, they have said to "look for something next spring (2018) that's made with our whole hearts. Fortunately, that won't be your only chance to hear their beautiful songs. This summer they will be very busy playing Bohemian Nights in Fort Collins, What Fest, The Uptown Breakdown, and Underground Music Showcase in Denver. This fall, you can also catch them on tour through Wyoming, Montana, and a long stretch down the West Coast with their friends The Lonesome Heroes.
