Session Date: 1/9/2019
Session Location: North Fort Collins, CO
Meet the Gasoline Lollipops. The band is the brainchild of frontman Clay Rose. Beginning as a two-piece psychobilly project, consisting of only Clay and a drummer. Now the band has expanded their sound and line-up to include more members and instruments. The current line-up features Clay Rose on acoustic guitar/lead vocals, Donny Ambory on electric guitar, Brad Morse on bass, and Kevin Matthews on drums.
"Clay's songwriting is the heart and soul of Gasoline Lollipops, certainly the engine and the reason the band exists. His songwriting is very influenced by Leonard Cohen and Townes Van Zandt but also punk rock, and I think our live show reflects that blend of intricate outlaw songwriting and explosive energy", says former GasPops drummer, Adam.
When asked for a funny or interesting story from the road, or the stage - "we were about to go on stage at Hodi's Half Note during FoCoMX (an annual Fort Collins music festival) and the place was sold out. This incredibly drunk guy kept sneaking into the backstage dressing room and getting kicked out, over and over. We were laughing about it until he got in our bassist's face a little bit and I stepped in. He angrily looked at me and said "Who are YOU with?" I said "We're Gasoline Lollipops and we're about to go on stage." As drunk as he was, something in him changed in a heartbeat and he started crooning "Love Is Free" perfectly. It was a hilarious moment for so many reasons - especially because of course it would be a GasPops fan all wasted sneaking backstage.
Currently, the band is hot off the trails of a sold out New Years at The Boulder Theater, their annual run of shows in Belize, and next they have their first headlining show at Denver’s famous Gothic Theater.
The pure emotion and energy that goes into Gasoline Lollipops music makes for an unforgettable live performance. It is a pleasure to get to work with such talent.
